BAGS FOR BELONGINGS Helping Probation Youth Make a Good First Impression and Build Confidence for Their Life Changes |

Thank you for your interest in contributing to the Bags for Belongings program at Humboldt County Probation. Should this be your first inquiry or an additional inquiry into how you can help local foster teens, your interest is most important to our program. The Bags-for-Belongings program first began in September 2007, when I observed a teen returning from placement. His belongings were placed in three large, black garbage bags, as he did not own a duffel bag or other bag to use for his belongings. This way of transporting items plagues many placing agencies and I was confident the local community of Humboldt could make a difference for our own teens. The response was more than I expected. Further inquiry has pushed the program to the next level, which includes additional types of bags for a teen’s belongings. |

Soroptimist International of Eureka was moved by Stacy's presentation to our club and decided to become involved by making this a signature service project for the 2008-2009 club year. With the help of club members and local businesses, our goal is to make this an ongoing project. |
